Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I hope that everyone is enjoying there family and is having fun. I am excited to eat lots of good food and play football outside with my cousins. It is so fun. I plan to eat broccoli and squash and I will hopefully try new things. Different kinds of food help your body to grow and to get the different vitamins that it needs.

Did you know?

Less than 25% of kids and teens eat the daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables. Few kids get regular physical activity. While moms and dads are aware of the importance of healthy eating and physical activity habits, they struggle with the best way to carry out plans for their families. With obesity rates rising among children and adults, it’s important to provide information and realistic tips for making and sustaining healthy choices for kids. Our hope is that this website will encourage kids and help parents find ways to make fit kids!

5 Ways to Stay Fit

Being a fit kid means you eat well, get a lot of exercise (physical activity), and stay at a healthy weight. When you stay fit your body works well. Below are 5 rules to help you become or stay a fit kid.

1. Eat a wide variety of foods
-Eating different foods helps your body get everything it needs. Try new foods with different colors to help you get the 2 servings of fruits and 3 servings of vegetables. Your parents can help you pick out healthy foods to eat everyday.

2. Drink plenty of liquids like water and milk
-Do you feel thirsty? Cold water is the best way to get rid of thirst. Remember at school you can get a carton of milk which helps you get the calcium you need to build strong bones. Try to get 3 cups of milk or dairy a day. You can also try drinking 100% juices instead of sugar filled drinks.

3. Hear what your body is telling you
-Do you feel full? That is your body telling you that you can stop eating. Being finished when your full helps keep you from feeling uncomfortable and stay at a healthy weight.

4. Limit time spent in front of the tv
-We all love the tv and video games but try to limit time watching tv, playing games or on the computer. Make a goal to spend less than 2hours doing these things. Instead spend time outside riding bikes or playing sports.

5. Stay active!
-Kids have lots of energy and love to have fun. Do what you love and enjoy like running, riding bikes or swimming. Talk to your parents, they can help you do your favorite activities. Make a list of fun things you want to do this week.
